Skiada, as a possibility of skiing during the entire year is technologically very advanced project. It implies top equipment available, literally, on few locations in the entire world, specific architectural solutions that allow the use of modern technology, as well as the experts who will know how to use technology in an adequate manner so that skiers beginners and professionals can make the most of it.
It sounds unusual, but yes, technology used by the worlds ski teams is available in Belgrade, on Ada, to all of you during the entire year.
Artificial ski surfaces that can be found in urban cores are extremely popular in the world. However they are usually placed on the roofs of existing object of solid construction. Such object often have a different primary purpose, as is the case with center for skiing on artificial surface Copenhill in Copenhagen, that is located at the roof of a power plant.
Skiada project, however, is a completely different solution.
Namely, on Ada, where Skiada is located, solid construction isn’t allowed. That means that successful simulator, and ski track setting required a solution different than the usual one. Prefabricated construction was designed so that it doesn’t burden locations natural ambient (it even fulfils it) and it is being used to it’s fullest potential, considering that both the space above and beneath the construction is being used.
This kind of architectural solution allows to the visitor to feel connected to the nature in spite of being on an artificial surface, which contributes a great deal to acquiring new skills, and to general experience of skiing as a sport.
For the ski simulator , which is technologically the most complicated part of the Skiada project, one can freely say that it is a perfect example of applied science in the service of sport. It is a device that with the help of a conveyor belt on which you place skies or snowboard, high resolution monitor and dozens of sensitive sensor completely simulates the outdoor skiing experience.
The science behind the ski simulator is subtle, and dough it may seem complicated it is amazingly functional. Simulator functions in a way that the belt moves from left to right changing the slope in doing so, and in such way it simulates going down the ski slope. Curved screen eight meters wide and three meters high gives a visual presentation that absolutely corresponds to the movement of the surface under legs. Sensors monitor your speed , measure the slope in the turns and in the conditions of absolute simulation of the force of the earth’s gravity, the mastery of which is the essence of this sport, and in continuity follow your movements and note every aspect where progress is possible.
Skiing on ski simulator is, therefore, as if you were monitored closely by a top coach while you train, who knows exactly which element of your skiing you must improve in order for your results to get better.
It is no surprise than that it is used for training not only by beginners and amateurs but also by top athletes.
